 Massage Modalities

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as gliding, kneading, vibrations, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility. This is the style I was trained the most in and use as the core modality for my work. I especially love using slow, relaxing strokes.

Thai Massage

Thai massage is more energizing and rigorous than most other forms of massage therapy. In its full form, the therapist may use hands, knees, legs, and feet to move the client into a series of yoga-like postures and stretches. In many cases, the client remains clothed and a mat is used on the floor. Because I do table massages, I incorporate some of the stretches, holds, and techniques into my routine. Some notable effects of Thai massage include increased circulation and flexibility.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a type of bodywork that focuses on applying pressure to the specific nerve zones in your feet, hands, and ears. Unlike other massages that intend to mostly relieve tension in the areas that are being worked on directly, reflexology is a far more in-depth science that aims to harmonize your entire body. According to reflexology, every part of the human body is mapped into your feet, hands, and ears. Reflexology treatments have been found to be highly effective for conditions such as allergies, headaches, and depression. My training thus far has been in foot reflexology, so I sometimes include these techniques when I work on a client's feet.
